Founded in 1992, New North Greenhouses is celebrating 30 years of serving the Soo and they want to celebrate with you!
This season the garden centre is carrying the largest selection of plants in its history along with great deals and discounts as a thank you for 30 wonderful years.
The garden centre started as an expansion of a tree seedling nursery and bedding plant operation, eventually growing into Algoma’s largest garden centre providing an exceptional place for gardening information, healthy plants, and friendly staff.
Susan Richards, Garden Centre Manager, has overseen the expansion and operations of New North since it opened in 1992. She graduated from the Humber College Landscape Technician program in 1982. Richards has all the solutions to your garden problems and regularly shares her tips for plants and gardens on the New North Greenhouses website and on their Facebook page.
The garden centre is the perfect place for a daily getaway with a variety of garden decor, vegetables, herbs, hanging baskets & planters, plant essentials, perennials, shrubs, and trees. It also organizes seminars and events for plant awareness and information.
Each year the greenhouse partners with a local charitable organization for a hanging basket promotion.
This spring, they have partnered with United Way Sault Ste. Marie – Harvest Algoma to sell Baskets for Full Bellies.
“We believe in supporting our community and using our platform to help others. We sold over 100 14″ mixed baskets with $10.00 from each basket being donated to Harvest Algoma – earmarked for creating nutritious meals for local people in need,” said Richards.
Like many other local businesses, the covid-19 pandemic caused major disruptions to the business. New North was able to successfully pivot into an online shop where gardeners could get informed on tips and tricks and shop for many gardening products.
However, it is recommended to go in person and enjoy the experience that the garden centre has to offer. “We see many generations of families coming to the garden centre over the years. It makes for a wonderful afternoon and a great way to enjoy some quality time with friends and family.”
The Garden centre Is proud to have served the Soo under local ownership since its inception, helping northern gardeners select the best plants and décor for their home projects. They offer an array of changing products according to the season and even began a pop-up Christmas store in November 2020.
“We believe that if your outdoor space is the best it can be, then we’ve provided our best knowledge to you,” added Richards
New North Greenhouses is located at 719 Airport Road, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
